Social Media Etiquette for Business Owners [Podcast 11]

Need some tips on the best ways to engage on social media platforms? Listen to the 11th Episode (season 2) of The RN Podcast: Download This Episode to Listen | Subscribe to The RN Podcast in iTunes | Listen on Stitcher So… I’m in a number of groups on Facebook and have seen a few faux pas lately… some that I’ve even committed myself when I first started out in business! And because of that, I’ve come up with 11 tips to help you participate in social media platforms the proper way. If you can’t listen to the podcast at this time, feel free to read the tips below. #1 – Don’t add someone to your email list without their permission. And, don’t take email addresses from your personal email account and add them to your business contact list. If you’re just starting up in your business, it may be tempting to put family and friends on your list to give you an audience from the start. Trouble is, you’ll run into SPAM laws, and you don’t want anyone reporting you for SPAM when you’re just starting out. That could put a stop to marketing your business before you even get started. Remedy: Sign up for an email marketing service provider so you can add potential clients or customers to your list ethically. And then, if those on your list no longer want to be on your list later on down the road, they can unsubscribe from your list without reporting it as spam. Just recently, I sent an email out to someone who added me to her email list about an opportunity that...

Self-Care Strategies for Nurses

Warning! This is a mega-post on taking care of yourself! 17 nurses have collaborated to share their stories, views and tips in prioritizing this long-lost art for nurses. Self-Care… We know what it is, and we know we must do more of it. As nurse Anne Llewellyn explains: “Self-care only works when you listen to your body and do what you want without resistance.” After all, we’re experts when it comes to directing our patients on ways to focus on their health, how to decrease stress, and how to achieve a balance in what may be a hectic, often difficult challenge. #Nurses are #experts when it comes to directing our patients on ways to focus on their health, how… Click To Tweet Problem is, we often neglect some of the same advice we will to those in our care. We can also put the needs of others before our own, at the expense to our health, our personal goals and even our relationships as discussed by Nurse Kelly Payne on her blog at Mommy Baby Nurse. When I first started the journey to nurse entrepreneurship, I tried to do everything… work full-time, volunteer my time, help others with their projects, complete project for others, work extra shifts, etc… all why trying to get my business off the ground. Soon afterwards, I found it was going to be impossible to keep going at that rate, especially without any self-care practices in place when I first started, which eventually prompted me to create Wealth & Wellness LIVE, an event for nurses that focused on self-care and business startup strategies. But, why do we...

How My First Business Took Me to Greece & Turkey

How My Business Took Me to Greece & Turkey I was a nurse, and I wanted to start my own business. I just had no idea how to do it at the time I made the decision to move forward. All I knew was that I loved international travel, and I wanted to create a business that allowed me to do more of that. When figuring out a way to get going, I focused on some things that I found in my research that would help me start and grow a business successfully. So I came up with my own system, called the 6 Rights of Nursing Entrepreneurship, that helped me take a closer look at what’s important in getting my business off the ground: The right mindset The right business idea The right clients/customers The right product/services The right implementation/systems The right support Giving these Rights my close attention, I founded RN Getaways, a boutique travel company that allows nurses to travel internationally for fun in a group setting. And so far, we’ve seen some pretty amazing places. In our first year, 2014, my clients and I went to Istanbul, Turkey. It’s one of my favorite cities of all the places I’ve traveled, so I wanted to share the experience with others. And then in our second season, we had two summer tours of Greece, exploring the cities of Athens, Delphi, and the wonderful island of Santorini. And next year, we’re off to Rome! I found a way to turn my passion into something I could do everyday… and make money! Click To Tweet So I finally found a...

How a Nurse Quit Her Job to Travel the World… And How You Can, Too!

How a Nurse Quit Her Job to Travel the World Side note: This is not at all a diatribe or manifesto on why you should quit your nursing job. These are just some steps I took when I made that decision. This is just my story. And nursing is great… really! Unless you’re independently wealthy or you’ve racked up years of savings to spend at whim, you may have some careful planning ahead of you. For me, it was making the decision to use my skills and talents (many which I picked up during nursing) to start my own businesses. And, since I can work online, traveling becomes so much easier! If the idea of designing your #nursing lifestyle seems tempting to you and you want to explore your… Click To Tweet People who work online and have the freedom of destination are often called digital nomads, and the term is growing on me as I work harder and harder to enjoy this type of lifestyle.
